GHK has been commissioned by DG EAC of the European Commission to carry out a survey to identify key data on prison education in 34 countries of Europe. The aim of this project is to ensure that the future work of the Commission in this area is informed and underpinned by a robust evidence base. GHK is a leading independent multi-disciplinary consultancy based in the UK with over 150 employees and an extensive network of retained subconsultants. GHK says:
Please help us to find out more about prison education in Europe! Tell us about examples of good practice in prison education and training from your country, by completing this online survey.
Your answers will be used to inform a European Commission study which aims to ‘map’ the state-of-play of prison education in 34 European countries and to identify examples of good practice. As part of the study, we will prepare a small number of good practice case studies, covering both national systems and institutional approaches at specific prison establishments. Please tell us about any measures or projects in your country which you feel could be described as good practice and could potentially be transferred to other countries.
The survey should take about five minutes to complete and although only a small number of the examples will be taken forward as case studies, short descriptions of all projects described in your responses will be prepared and included in a ‘catalogue’ of good practices from across Europe.

Would you like to host the next EPEA Conference? |
|
Every 2 years, the EPEA holds its International Conference in a different European country so that members and non-members can come together to explore topical issues; experience new approaches and innovations, and highlight good practice in the field of prison education. The most recent conferences have taken place in the UK (2011), Cyprus (2009), Ireland (2007) and Bulgaria (2005).
The EPEA Steering Committee is beginning to plan for the 14th International EPEA Conference to be held in 2013; and is inviting organisations, agencies or institutions interested in hosting this conference to contact us. The benefits of hosting the conference are many. In addition to enhancing the international reputation of the host organisation, it provides an opportunity to showcase new developments and innovations, to forge international links, and to help shape the future development of prison education across Europe and beyond.
If you are considering hosting the next conference and would like more information, please contact the EPEA Chairperson, Dr. Anita Wilson. She will explain what is involved in hosting an EPEA conference and provide guidelines on how to make a successful conference bid.
