Each country with 10 members or more can elect two Liaison Persons, at least one of whom should be in daily contact with prisoners. Those Liaison Persons who attend the General Council Meeting can then elect Regional Representatives to serve on the Steering Committee. This way the role of the EPEA Liaison Person in the structure and organisation of the EPEA is pivotal
The role of the Liaison Person within the EPEA is perhaps the most crucial in relation to the future vitality of the association. Liaison Persons are the basic local link between the national organisation or branch and the rest of the EPEA. All information, Magazines, News and election papers are passed through the Liaison Person and, in turn, the members relate to the association through them. They are a two-way channel for all communications. Equally the success of News and Magazine depends on the energy and enthusiasm of the Liaison Person in promoting the full participation of local members.
If possible the local branch of the EPEA should integrate with any existing organisation of prison educators, in such a way that dual membership is possible - this is an important task of the Liaison Person, who can be seen to represent national membership more effectively, and give the EPEA a higher profile locally.
