Seminar: New perspectives through learning in prison

A reminder that the Prisoner Learning Academic Network (PLAN) and the University of Westminster Criminology Team would like to invite you to an evening seminar on 20 June exploring the role and impact of education and learning in prison.

Throughout this event, we will be discussing higher level learning in prisons and its relationship to identity and desistance. We will also explore the experience of prisoner learners when they leave prison and the impact that higher level learners can have on the culture of the institution whilst they are there.

Historical play: ‘Disorder Contained’

The Centre for the History of Medicine at the University of Warwick has created a piece of theatre exploring the introduction of solitary confinement in the 1850s. The play, Disorder Contained, examines the impact on mental health of the Separate System, which strictly prohibited convicts’ contact with fellow prisoners and enforced total silence.

Tickets are available for several performances between 29 June – 15 July in Coventry, Dublin and Belfast.
