Dutch research asks for enrichment of detention environment
Dutch research into the impact of impoverished environments to the brain, proofs the negative side effects of detention. The research by Van Meijers – Do not restrain the brain, shows that an impoverished environment leads to diminishing of cognitive skills. To improve the possibility of self regulation and executive functioning the detention-climate needs to be enriched. Examples are tasks as reading more books, participating in challenging education, offer stimulation of fiscal activities and providing more complex work in prisons.
