The family of Prof. Dr. Péter Ruzsonyi has informed the EPEA of the sad news:
The grieving family, the University of Public Service, the Hungarian Ministry of Interior and the Hungarian Prison Service informs you with deep sadness, that Prof. Dr. Péter Ruzsonyi corr. brigadier general, university professor, department chair, former dean of the Faculty of Law Enforcement, member of the public body of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Subcommittee on Correctional Law of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Interior, the Hungarian Society of Corrections, the Hungarian Doctoral Council and the European Prison Education Association, has deceased on the 26th of June 2022, at the age of 62.
Péter Ruzsonyi, as an esteemed and publicly honoured professor of the University of Public Service educated several generations of correctional officers and taught them the ways of sophisticated, professional thinking and the value of consistent work. He was the head of the Department of Corrections for twenty-three years. During this period he held the office of the dean of the Faculty of Law Enforcement two times, first from 2012 to 2015, then from 2018 to 2021.
Besides having an exceptional career, Péter was also equally appreciated and successful in his private life. According to his wife and two daughters, he was objectively the world’s best dad and it is not only due to his everlasting supply of jokes. He had always been caring, supportive and provided a peaceful stability to all of those around him. He was a genuine, selfless husband, father, brother and friend. He always enjoyed being in water, on land and in the air. Now it’s time to conquer everything beyond.
The funeral of Péter Ruzsonyi will take place with military honours on the 19th of July 2022 at 4 p.m. at the Cemetery of Fiumei út. (1086 Budapest, Fiumei út 16.)
