In December the liaison persons of the Southern Region elected their Regional Representative of their region. José Pinto, the former EPEA secretary and president of the Portuguese Branch of EPEA, has resulted elected.
José Pinto has been teaching in Portuguese prisons since 2007 and has collaborated with several institutions that provide education in prisons. In 2017, together with other prison educators, he founded the Portuguese Prison Education Association (APEnP), of which he became president a year later (2018). He was recently elected for a second term (2022-2026). He is currently on secondment to APEnP (based at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro UTAD) and is also an invited assistant professor at UTAD. He represents APEnP in Erasmus+ projects.
